Arc

Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 4, 2026

Last updated: July 4, 2026

Arc is a private diary that becomes your biographer. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. We've tried to write it in plain language, because a journal only works if you trust it.

This app is operated by 1984 Management Company, Inc. (“Arc,” “we,” “us”), a corporation incorporated in California, USA. For any privacy question or request, contact us at support@1984family.com.

The short version

1. Who this applies to

Arc is intended for people 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, and Arc is not directed to them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at support@1984family.com and we will delete it.

2. Information we collect

We only collect what the app needs to function. We do not buy personal data about you from anyone.

a) Account and identity

b) Your diary content

This is the heart of the app, and it is often personal and sensitive by nature:

c) Information Arc derives from your content

To act as a biographer, Arc uses AI to extract structured insights from your own words, and stores them in your account:

Every AI-derived insight is traceable to the entries it came from, and generated images are labeled as interpretations, not factual records.

d) Subscription status

If you subscribe, we store your plan tier and status (free / standard / pro, active / expired). Payments are processed by Apple through in-app purchase — we never receive or store your credit-card or payment-method details.

e) Device permissions

Arc asks for the following only when you use the related feature, and you can decline or revoke them in your device settings:

f) What we do not collect

3. How we use your information

We use the information above only to:

We do not use your diary content for advertising, profiling for third parties, or training our own general-purpose models.

4. AI processing and the providers we use

Arc's intelligence is provided by two AI companies acting as our processors. Your content is sent to them only to produce a result you requested, and only the minimum needed:

ProviderWhat is sentWhy
Anthropic (Claude)Your entry text and relevant context (e.g. birth year, previously extracted people/events)Extract insights, write weekly/periodic reflections, detect defining moments, compose recap-image prompts and story narration, analyze an imported life story
OpenAIVoice/video audio; AI-composed image prompts; AI-composed narration textTranscribe recordings to text (Whisper), generate recap images, and generate spoken audio for stories

Important: Under Anthropic's and OpenAI's commercial API terms, content submitted through their APIs is not used to train their models. Each provider may retain data transiently for abuse-monitoring and to deliver the service, per their own policies. We encourage you to read them:

5. Service providers (subprocessors)

We rely on a small set of vendors to run Arc. They process data on our behalf under contract:

We will keep this list current as our infrastructure changes.

6. How your data is stored and secured

No system is perfectly secure, but we design Arc so that your journal stays yours.

7. Data retention

We keep your content for as long as your account is active, so your biography can compound over time. When you delete specific entries, we remove them (and their associated media files). When you delete your account, we remove your data as described next.

8. Your choices: export and deletion

9. Your privacy rights

We honor the rights below for all users, regardless of where you live. To exercise any of them, email support@1984family.com; we may need to verify your identity first, and we will respond within the timeframe required by law.

We do not “sell” your personal information and we do not “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law.

International data transfers

Arc is operated from the United States, and your data is stored and processed in the United States and other countries where our subprocessors operate. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for transfers out of the EEA/UK.

10. Children's privacy

Arc is for users 17 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. See §1.

11. We do not track you

Arc does not use third-party trackers, advertising SDKs, or analytics, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising. The App Store privacy label for Arc reflects this.

12. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
